A 38-year-old man from Kerala was killed in Southampton Way, Camberwell in another horrific incident of stabbing. The incident took place on Friday. The accused compatriot was arrested by the police on the same day from a residential property in Southampton Way. This is reportedly the third killing of an Indian-origin person by stabbing in Britain this week.
On Saturday, the Metropolitan Police convicted Salman Salim, a 25-year-old-man, who is also from Kerala with the murder of Aravind Sasikumar. Following preliminary investigations, Salim is understood to have been a flatmate of Aravind Sasikumar. The duo resided in a flat together in Southampton Way, Camberwell. The victim, Aravind Sasikumar hails from Panampilly Nagar in Kerala. According to further reports, the duo shared community facilities with other Malayalis.
On Saturday, Salim appeared before the Croydon Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 20th June. As per reports, police were summoned at 1:30 am on Friday after the victim was found with stab injuries outside a residential address in Southampton Way. Aravind Sasikumar died on spot and a post-mortem report carried out later on the same day confirmed that he died of stab wounds to the chest.
As far as reports are concerned, Sasikumar had been living in the United Kingdom for the past 10 years after arriving on a student visa. Aravind Sasikumar’s family has been informed and are being assisted by detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, local policing commander in Southwark and Lambeth expressed that this is a tragic incident and that his thoughts are with the man’s family as they come to terms with the awful news. He further asserted that they will do everything required to bring those responsible to justice.
Earlier, an Irish-Indian student Grace Kumar living in Nottingham and an Indian woman from Hyderabad, Tejaswini Reddy in Wembley were killed in a horrific incident of stabbing attacks on Tuesday.
