72 Hoorain in JNU: Student union condemns the screening of film

Over 100 students attended the screening of 72 Hoorain at Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tuesday. Following the screening, the Student Federation of India condemned it and said in a statement that they have rejected Vivekananda Vichar Manch’s tactics to spread lies in the name of facts and to communalise the campus. In response, a VVM representative said they showed the movie to let students of JNU decide about it.

The screening was organised by the Vivekananda Vichar Manch (VVM), and was scheduled to start at 4 pm at JNU’s convention centre. The screening began with slogans of Jai Shri Ram, Har Har Mahadev, and Jai Hind being raised by filmmakers, members of VVM, and viewers.

The film has been directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, showcasing people being brainwashed religiously and seeking to explore it. The film has been expected to hit the cinemas on July 7.

The film was also attended by the director and producer of the film, and his wife Kiran Dagar, co-producers of the film Ashoke Pandit, Gulab Singh Tanwar, and one of the lead stars in the film Pavan Malhotra.

As per the reports, the director’s wife Dagar explained the reason behind choosing JNU for screening the film, she said there have been many universities where students come, study, and go, whereas the students of JNU have been known for direction to any movements. She expected that the students from JNU would share the right opinion about the film.

She added there have been cases when people tried to misinterpret the film by tagging wrong things with the film, which has not been the case.

As per the reports, several religious and political leaders from Kashmir have condemned the film and said that the sentiments of the community have been hurt. Earlier, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) denied a certificate to the promo. However, the makers of the film released the trailer.
