On a highway in Maharashtra’s Dhule district on Tuesday, a container truck hit four vehicles before ramming into a hotel, inflicting at least 15 deaths and more than 20 injuries, according to officials.

According to a police official, the accident happened at around 10:45 am close to Palasner hamlet on the Mumbai-Agra route in Dhule, which is more than 300 kilometres from the state capital.

The truck’s brakes failed, causing the driver to lose control of the wheels. It struck a car, a container, two motorcycles, and two more vehicles from the rear.

The truck then crashed into a motel next to a bus stop on the highway, according to him, before flipping over.

The official had earlier said that at least 10 people were killed and more than 20 injured. The truck was travelling from Madhya Pradesh to Dhule.

Some of the people waiting for a bus at the stop were among the fatalities, he claimed.

The police arrived at the scene quickly after being informed.

According to the police, the injured people were taken urgently to hospitals in Shirpur and Dhule.

Meanwhile, in a simillar incident, early on Saturday morning, a private sleeper coach bus carrying them caught fire on the Nagpur-Mumbai Motorway in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district, killing 25, including three children, and injuring eight other people who were there in the bus.

The mishap happened in the village of Pimpalkuta around 1.35 in the morning. First, the driver struck an iron pole after losing control of the vehicle. The bus then hit a median, skidded off a bridge side wall, flipped, and caught fire. Sunil Kadasne, the police chief in Buldhana said.

There were 33 people in the bus being driven by Vidharbha Travels as it travelled from Nagpur to Pune. The eight survivors, who are in the hospital, including the bus driver, another driver, and a helper, are stated to be in stable condition.
