The public and private sector banks in India will remain closed in August 2023 for 14 days including weekends, as per the holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). In August, India will celebrate multiple festivals and special occasions like Tendong Lho Rum Faat, Independence Day, Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi), Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva, First Onam, Thiruvonam and Raksha Bandhan. Bank holidays during these festivals will vary from state to state.Â
Reportedly, though private and public sector banks will remain closed for 14 days in the month, internet banking services will be available throughout the country on all the days. Notably, in accordance with the RBI guidelines, the Rs 2000 denomination notes can be exchanged till September 30, 2023. People who are planning to visit the banks for the aforesaid purpose should check the holiday list in order to plan their visit.
Here is the list of bank holidays for August 2023:
August 6: First Sunday of the month.Â
August 8: Tendong Lho Rum Faat. (Banks in Gangtok will remain closed on account of the occasion.)Â
August 12: Second Saturday of the month
August 13: Second Sunday of the month
August 15: Independence Day (Banks will remain shut down in Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad- Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad- Telangana, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbi, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram.)
August 16: Parsi New Year (Banks will be closed in Belapur, Mumbai and Nagpur to celebrate Parsi New Year.Â
August 18: Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva (Banks will be closed in Guwahati on account of the occasion)
August 20: Third Sunday
August 26: Fourth Saturday of the month
August 27: Fourth Sunday of the month
August 28: First Onam (Banks will be closed in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram to celebrate first Onam
August 29: Thiruvonam (Banks will be closed in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram to celebrate Thiruvonam.)
August 30: Raksha Bandhan (Banks will be closed in Jaipur and Srinagar on account of the occasion.)
August 31: Raksha Bandhan/Sree Narayana guru Jayanthi/Pang-Lhabsol (Banks will be closed in Gangtok, Dehradun, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram on account od the occasions.Â
