Five persons, including a woman, in Southeast Delhi, brutally assaulted a 10-year-old girl. DCP of Southeast Delhi Rajesh Deo said, a case of sexual assault, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, has been filed at a police station after the victim approached there. A total of five people, four men, and a woman have been booked in the case.
DCP informed that the accused woman’s daughter had earlier registered a complaint against the relatives of the present victim and that a case was lodged against the accused under POCSO Act. They are presently in judicial custody.
The police revealed that further probe is going on to nab the accused. The police have also informed, the victim is medically fine right now.
Crime against minors in India :
The National Crime Records Bureau(NCRB) 2022 report revealed the cases of crime against children in the country registered in 2021 were 1,49,404, out of which around 36% that is 53,874 were only the cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), in 2020 there were a total of 1,28,531 cases registered of crime against children, out of which 47, 221 were under POSCO, which was just 114 less than the cases under POSCO in 2019, which was 47,335 out of the 1,48,185 registered cases of the crime against children.
The facts clearly show the worst situation for children’s safety in the whole country and not only in the national capital territory. In India, the rate of crime against children in the national capital territory of Delhi was at 128.5 per 100,000 children, in 2021.
Where on the one hand, crimes against children saw a sharp rise of around 32%, on the other hand, crimes committed by minors in the city saw a rise of 7.6% in 2021, as revealed in a report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
