IMD said that by Wednesday morning, a cyclonic storm is likely to reach the west-central Bay of Bengal, close to the Andhra Pradesh coast. Meanwhile, Odisha and West Bengal are also bracing for the cyclonic storm’s wrath.

It is reported that 50 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been earmarked for Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal as cyclone Asani has intensified and is near the east coast with a wind speed of up to 105 kmph.

Ajay Bhalla, Union Home Secretary on Tuesday reviewed preparedness for the severe cyclone. As the cyclone Asani is approaching Andhra Pradesh, the weather forecasting department issued a red alert in East and West Godavari, Guntur Krishna, and Vishakhapatnam districts.

However, it is expected to move nearly northwards over the next few hours, then slowly recurve north-northeastwards along the coastlines of Narsapur, Yanam, Kakinada, Tuni, and Visakhapatnam from noon to dusk today, before emerging into the west-central Bay of Bengal off the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh by night.

Rough sea conditions, strong waves, and gusty winds are also witnessed at Puri beach in Odisha today. Hrushikesh Panda, in charge of the Puri MeT department, said that the waves are reported above normal with 30kmph wind speed in the morning and along with it Puri district reported 9mm rainfall last night.
