With Prabhas-starrer Adipurush releasing on Friday, the Hindu Sena has approached the Delhi High Court seeking a ban on the film.
Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta has filed a public interest litigation in the High Court of Delhi stating the Ramayana has been mocked in the film by Prabhas, the lead actor who plays the role of Lord Rama in the film.
In the petition, Gupta stated Hindu culture has also been mocked in the film and sought a ban on the film and demanded its film certification be withdrawn. Â
The petition said the film directed by Om Raut has hurt Hindu religious sentiments by depicting religious figures in a wrong way and is portraying something in total contrast to what has been presented in the Sanskrit epic, written by Valmiki, Tulsidas and others.
Apart from Lord Rama, the petition added that the characters of Sita, Hanuman and Ravana have been mispresented in the film.
The presentation of Saif Ali Khan sporting a beard (as Ravana in the fim) is completely inaccurate and is hurting the Hindu sentiments and is a serious insult to the civilization.
It noted that the scenes related to Ravana in the film show a distortion of facts from the real story of Ramayana.
A petition was filed by the Hindu Sena in October last year also after the makers dropped a teaser of Adipurush. This is a big-budget film, claimed to have cost Rs 500 crore to make and is said to be the highest budgeted film to be made till date.
The film, which is inspired by Ramayana, has cast Prabhas as Raghav (the character of Lord Rama), and revolves around him bringing back his wife Janaki (played by Kriti Sanon as Sita) from her abduction by Lankesh (Saif Ali Khan as Ravana).
Other films that have faced the ire of the public and activists include Brahmastra among others. The prevalence of the boycott brigade is set to mark Adipurush’s presence in contemporary history in bold letters.
