A horrible case of atrocity against a Dalit man has been reported in Gujarat where a restaurant owner and his staff members thrashed a man belongs to the Dalit community over an eatery order. An incident took place just after another case of a Dalit man being beaten over wearing sunglasses and good clothes. The victim Raju Vankar died two days after the incident happened. The family members of the victim refused to accept the body on Saturday due to negligence from the Police side and demanded justice for Raju.
The Dalit community protested against this incident and demand strict action against the accused, they will not accept the body until the law take its course.
The incident took place on the evening of June 7. Vankar who was an autorickshaw driver by profession had gone to an eatery at Limbadiya village in Khanpur for dinner. After dinner, he requested a hotel parcel of food. When Raju objected to the quantity of the food not as per the money he paid, the hotel owner and his staff hurled casteist abuse at him before thrashing him and injuring him badly.
However, he managed to return home and told the family members about the incident. At night, he started complaining about acute pain in his abdomen. His wife called an ambulance and took him to a hospital at Mahisagar. Later Raju Vankar was shifted to a hospital at Godhra in Panchmahal district from where he was moved to SSG Hospital at Vadodara. There he underwent an operation but was later declared dead on Friday night.
The case has been registered against the two accused under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult to provoke someone), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation), and 114 (abettor present when offense committed) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as relevant provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the two accused have not been arrested. Following Vankar’s death, the police added section 302 IPC (murder) against the two accused.
