The world celebrates the Jagannath Rath Yatra, with the chariot of Lord Jagannath being pulled at different locations in India and around the world, the most famous in Lord Jagannath’s hometown in Puri.
In a tragic incident in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, a balcony of a building collapsed with people standing on it to watch the procession of the Jagannath Rath Yatra today.
The deadly incident has left around 11 people injured.
A video of the incident has surfaced.
In the video, it can be seen a large number of people gathered in the balcony with a chariot of Lord Jagannath passing by, when the balcony breaks into pieces and falls down.
The shocking case happened in the Karianaka road in Ahmedabad’s Dariyapur.
The balcony which fell down was of a three storey building, there were women including children on it.
The debris of the balcony ultimately resulted to falling on people standing under it, who also received severe injuries.
Reports said, the balcony could not take up the weight and pressure on it as it got overloaded.
Meanwhile, chariots of the gods in Puri were rolled on and are en-route to a temporary abode. A stampede like situation unfolded as lakhs of devotees gather around to watch the grand procession and take a glimpse of the Lords.
Reports said, the situation in Puri has left nearly 4 people hospitalised.
Ahmedabad, which has a record of celebrating the festival in a grand manner is observing 146th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath this year.
The administration has mobilised nearly 26,000 security forces across the city. The Gujarat police have kept up all the security measures in place using 3D mapping technology for the first time ever during Rath Yatra to monitor the entire route of chariot and has also used anti-drone technology for preventing any unwanted security disturbance.
