In a shocking incident, a 9-year-old school girl was mauled by stray dogs in Kannur district in Kerala. Reportedly, the entire incident was captured on the CCTV camera. Janvi, the victim was playing in the street after finishing school on Monday when she was attacked by three street dogs.
The unfortunate incident took place when the girl was trying to run inside a house and accidentally fell down. During that time, the three stray dogs started attacking her. The dogs attacked her within the compound of an uninhabited house, leading to deep cuts to her neck, arms and legs. Hearing the cry of the kid, a woman from the neighbourhood hurried to the spot and saved the girl from the dogs. Nonetheless, till then the girl was beaten at least 13 times. Currently, the 9-year-old girl is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Chala.
In another similar incident of canine attack, a specially-abled 11-year-old boy, Nihal died after being attacked by dogs in Edakkad area of Kannur. In Kollam too, a stray dog attacked school children right outside their educational institute, at the time when they were leaving the school in the afternoon. Visuals of the aforesaid canine attack incident showed the dog running into a group of students and biting one of them who eventually fell on the ground and tried to kick the canine away.
At present, there has been a rise in the number of canine attacks and dog bites in the southern state in the past few days, thereby raising concern about the same. Considering the situation, Kannur district panchayat president PP Divya sought permission for euthanasia of violent stray dogs. On Monday, the Kannur district panchayat president approached the Supreme Court of India, stressing on the increasing number of stray dog attacks in the Kannur district.
