Typical operations were halted in states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, etc. due to heavy rainfall. Twenty trains were cancelled in the area due to significant waterlogging, flood-like conditions, and landslides, according to Northern Railway.
More than 20 people have already perished as a result of the torrential rain in northern India, which caused landslides and flash floods in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, among other places.
To date, the excessive rain in the north has resulted in the deaths of more than 20 people. Due to the region’s heavy rain, the Northern Railways diverted 12 additional trains in addition to cancelling around 17 trains. Four locations saw the suspension of train operations because of water logging.
Along with Vande Bharat and two dozen other trains for Monday and Tuesday, three Shatabdi trains—two from Kalka to New Delhi and one from Chandigarh to New Delhi—were also cancelled. Until Sunday, Jan-Shatabdi and Vande Bharat have been cancelled. All toy trains and rail coaches travelling between Kalka and Shimla have been cancelled by the railways for the upcoming few days.
Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, presided over a high-level meeting on Monday to talk about the flooding problem and the rising Yamuna River water levels. Ministers from the Delhi government Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi as well as concerned officials were present at the meeting.
Following this meeting, Kejriwal declared that the national capital is not now at danger of flooding. Additionally, he acknowledged that Delhi’s drainage infrastructure was not equipped to handle the record-breaking rains, which caused severe traffic jams and flooding in low-lying regions.
Other areas of Delhi containing VIPs and the diplomatic enclave in Chanakyapuri hosting foreign missions were also flooded. Trains, airlines, and buses in Delhi were all impacted by the bad weather. According to the Northern Railway, approximately 24 trains on the Delhi-Ambala route were cancelled on Monday due to poor weather.
