The father of the minor wrestler, who had earlier levelled sexual harassment allegation against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, clarified that his family had not received any threats. He denied wrestler Sakshi Malik’s claim that the minor wrestler had changed her statement due to the fear of intimidation.
The father’s response followed after Sakshi Malik and her wrestler husband Satyawart Kadian released a video statement. In the statement, Sakshi Malik claimed that the minor wrestler altered her statement against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh as a result of threats made against her family.
Speaking to India Today, the minor wrestler’s father said that his family did not receive any threats owing to which his daughter was pressured to change her statement. He further urged Sakshi Malik to clarify the basis of her statement. The minor’s father asserted that they have done what they needed to do and that there is no truth to such claims of threats against their family.
In the video released by the wrestlers, Sakshi Malik mentioned that the minor wrestler had provided a statement twice, first to the police under Section 161 of the Indian Penal Code, and another before the magistrate under Section 164. According to Malik, the minor wrestler revised her statement due to alleged threats directed at her family.
Sakshi Malik’s statement followed the Delhi Police’s recommendation to dismiss the complaint filed by the minor wrestler against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, noting a lack of corroborative evidence. The cancellation report concerning the WFI chief’s case is reportedly scheduled for consideration by a Delhi court on July 4.
India’s top wrestlers namely Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have been demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accusing the WFI chief of sexual harassment against the seven wrestlers, including one minor.
