Rainfall over the past few days have cleaned up Noida’s polluted air and has brought relief from the heat but roads, societies and localities across Noida were flooded and waterlogged due to lack of preparation.
At ATS Homecraft Happy Tails in Sector 10 of Greater Noida West, residents said the basement was waterlogged after the monsoon showers. The sewage network in Migsun Green Mansion society at Surajpur was choked. A group of people had to move through knee deep waters to carry a body of a thirty two year old man for last rites in Harola village of Noida on Friday. Mahender Awana a local from the area said this showed the condition of the village was pitiable.
Lawyer Aditya Bhati said they had been seeing this situation over the years. Bhati added the monsoon showers were enough for the waterlogging of District magistrate’s office. In sector 27, residents said sewage overflow had entered their houses.
The residents said the water from the drains overflowed over the roads which led to the backflow of sewage into the sector. As a result the sewage was all over the roads and parks and entered the houses, leaving the area with a strong and unpleasant smell. The residents said they felt like they were living in a slum.
Dr Kabir Sardana also complained about the sewage overflow. He said a drain was under construction in their sector which had caused the sewage to overflow into the houses of the sector.
He said they had been facing this problem over the last few years. Those residents living in gated societies said they were facing problems in reaching their offices. Sandeep Bachetti, a resident of Migsun Green Mansion society said he had to walk in sewage just to get to his car in the parking lot.
Similarly Pratish Kumar Rai complained of water overflow in the basement of ATS Homekraft Happy Trails on Thursday. A cow fell in the waterlogged drain at a village in Sector Mu-1 of Greater Noida and had to be rescued on Friday.
