The police officials on Saturday informed that four people were killed and 10 others were injured after they came in contact with a high-tension wire while preparing for a Muharrajm procession in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district. The incident took place at Khetko village under Petarwar Police Station limits, situated 80 km away from the state capital Ranchi.

Bokaro Superintendent of Police Priyadarshi Alok asserted that the unfortunate incident occured when their religious flag, which is made of iron, came in contact with a live wire. Speaking to Press Trust of India, the Bokaro Superintendent informed that the incident occurred around 6 am on Saturday while they were preparing for a Muharram procession.

Meanwhile, almost after three decades, the Shia community on Thursday took out a Muharram procession along the traditional route in Srinagar from Guru Bazar area to Dalgate through Lal Chowk. As per reports, hundreds of Shia mourners gathered at Guru Bazar early in the morning and marched through Bushah Chowk and MA Road to reach Dal Gate and later dispersed. The gathering of over 25,000 people was completely disciplined and well-coordinated, according to the police.

Speaking about the occasion, Additional Director General (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar expressed that the Muharram procession had not been taken out for the past 33 years and its  resumption was another historic day in the continued march towards peace and stability. In addition, the Shia community also expressed gratitude to the administration for the historic move.

Muharram has a great significance among the muslim community. It is considered as the month of Allah. Reportedly, Sunni people observe fast on this day whereas Shia people mourn on the 10th day of Muharram. Muslims also commemorate the death of Prophet Mohammad’s grandson Hussain Ibn Ali, who was martyred during this month when fighting was forbidden.
