NCP chief Sharad Pawar says next Opposition meet to be in Bengaluru on July 13-14

Sharad Pawar

The Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar announced on Thursday that the next opposition meeting will take place in Bengaluru on July 13 and 14. After the meeting in Patna, he claimed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi became restless.

Pawar was referring to a meeting of opposition party leaders that took place in the Bihar capital on June 23, in which over 15 opposition leaders came together to discuss their further agenda.

At the Patna meeting, 17 parties, including the Congress, decided to work cooperatively by putting aside their differences in order to confront the BJP at the Centre of the country in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

To put together a common plan, they chose Shimla as their spot for their second meeting. However, now they have chosen to meet again for the second part of the plan in Bengaluru on July 13-14.

The next meeting will be chaired by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge in which it is anticipated that he will produce a plan of action, as per the NCP chief.

The first meeting was hosted by Bihar’s CM Nitish Kumar, at his home in Patna, and more than 32 leaders from different parties were present. RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary was not seen in the meeting because of a predetermined family program. However, Mayawati (BSP), Naveen Patnaik (BJD), K Chandrashekar Rao (BRS), and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (YSRCP) were not invited in the meeting.

The precise number of parties that vowed to oppose the BJP together was unclear as leaders, like Nitish Kumar and West Bengal’s CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, said there were 17, while others, like Yechury, claimed there were just 15 parties involved in the meeting. To establish a shared plan, they chose Shimla as the location for their second meeting which is now changed to Bengaluru.

The opposition conference drew a harsh response from the BJP, which referred to it as a multi-headed selfish alliance and likened it to wolves that hunt in packs.
