Noida to install more surveillance cameras under Safe City project

The Noida Authority recently decided to install more surveillance cameras to its arsenal of 1000 CCTVs across the country. This initiative comes under the aegis of its Safe City project.

According to reports, the Noida Authority will soon hire a private consultant who will work along with the police teams to track accident, crime prone areas and other vulnerable places and subsequently bring them under technical guidance.

Recently, the authority has reissued an official document inviting a request for proposal (RFP) from agencies who are willing to carry out a survey for the placement of CCTV cameras across Noida. Notably, an RFP which was issued in April failed to attract any interest.

A Noida authority official stated that special focus will be given to installing cameras at black spots, which will be further identified by the external agency in coordination with the police. At present, the city has 11 identified black spots, namely, Sector 21/25 roundabout, Rajnigandha roundabout, Sector 37, Mahamaya Flyover, GIP Mall, Hajipur underpass, Yamaha Cut in Surajpur, two zero point one on the Noida Expressway, which is near Sector 168 and one on NH-24 that comes under Sector 58.

The officials further added that once the consultant is finalized, they will have to formulate a detailed project report (DPR) and other documents within six months. In addition, the survey report will have details on the placement and direction of cameras, latitudes and longitudes of the identified locations together with an approximate number of cameras required to cover these spots. Reportedly, the survey report will have to be submitted before the office of DGM Rajesh Kumar.

The officials further noted that the number of cameras for each spot will be determined by the geometry of the road, the number of roads originating from the location and the number of points of interest. Furthermore, the agency will also specify the type of cameras needed to ascertain complete coverage of the black spots.

The Safe City project is a central government initiative to ensure a safe and secure environment for women and children in public places along with curbing crimes against them. In the year 2022, more than 1000 CCTV cameras were installed at 76 locations under this project.
