Odisha train tragedy: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw says root cause of accident identified


Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday, informed that the root cause of the massive train accident that took place in Odisha’s Balasore has been identified.

Minister Vaishnaw while speaking to the media at the train crash site said Prime Minister Narendra Modi flown to spot yesterday and after his inspection, as per this directions, the restoration work is at a full pace.

He added that the target is of Wednesday morning, by then the restoration process will be completed so that the trains can resume their operations.

Vaishnaw informed all the dead bodies have been recovered from the site.

He added that the enquiry over the tragic mishap has been completed and the Commissioner Rail Safety will soon submit its enquiry report.

Vaishnaw also said the root cause behind the accident has also been identified and will soon be be revealed.

On June 2, Friday evening a dreadful train accident took place near the Bahanaga railway station in Balasore district of Odisha, where two superfast express trains collided that resulted to the death of nearly 300 people and left hundreds of people injured.

A goods train along with the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express and the Yeshwantpur-Howrah superfast express were involved in the accident.

About 300 individuals lost their lives and more than 1000 people were injured in the terrible accident.

PM Modi on Saturday, reached spot to take cognizance of the situation. The Prime Minister also visited the medical facilities to meet the injured victims who were admitted.

Meanwhile, Railway Minister earlier on the night of accident had announced compensation worth Rs 10 lakh to the deceased’s family members, Rs 2 lakh to grievously injured people and Rs 50,000 to minor injured people.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today, has also announced ex-gratia worth Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for seriously injured.
