Punjab govt to open 8 ultra-modern UPSC coaching centres, CM Bhagwant Mann says aspirants to get free training

Mohali health department came into action after a diarrhoea outbreak in Mohali’s Balongi and Badmajra villages. As per the reports, as many as 126 people have fallen sick due to diarrhoea in these two villages.   

Additionally, three people infected with cholera have also been reported from the area. The reason of contamination has not been found yet.

Following the situation in these two villages, the Mohali health department has set up medical camps in the villages and the drinking water supply has been cut off in the area. Now, drinking water is being supplied through water tankers keeping the diarrhoea outbreak in mind.

The health department personnel have been visiting houses of affected families and distributing oral rehydration solution (ORS) packets to them.

The water samples from the villages have been collected for testing by the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) of Chandigarh, and Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences, Mohali.

Mohali SDM Sarabjit Kaur, Mohali MC joint commissioner Kiran Sharma, and civil surgeon Doctor Mahesh Kumar visited the affected villages and examined the situation on Saturday.

According to the reports, SDM Kaur said water samples were collected from taps in houses for testing. She added that medical teams under the supervision of Gharuan senior medical officer Surinder Pal Kaur have been providing free medicines to patients by setting up a camp.

The Municipal Corporation Mohali joint commissioner Kiran Sharma said water tankers had been made available to supply drinking water and told residents not to consume tap water.

As per the reports, 47  cases were reported from Badmajra and 79 from Balongi. People are being educated about preventing diarrhoea and Asha workers have been distributing ORS packets and zinc tablets to all the households. Villagers have been advised to use boil water for drinking, civil surgeon Dr Mahesh Kumar Ahuja said.

A Field Testing Kit (FTK) has been used for testing the water quality by taking samples from different houses. These kits are available at the local panchayat levels.
