Ruckus in Tripura Assembly: BJP and Tipra Motha MLAs bicker, 5 MLAs suspended

MLAs from BJP and Tipra Motha engaged in a ruckus at the Assembly session in Tripura on Friday. The heated incident was triggered by a question raised by opposition Minister Animesh Debbarma regarding the alleged watching of pornographic movies by BJP MLA Jadav Lak Nath during the last Assembly session in March.

A video from the Tripura Assembly has gone viral on the social media platforms. In the viral video, MLAs could be seen pushing and shoving each other. The video further shows that one woman was also seen pulling the saree of another woman. In addition, one of the MLAs even stood up on a table and was heard shouting slogans. The woman MLA was joined by another female colleague in this.

According to reports, during the budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, opposition parties namely Tipra Motha, Congress and CPIM carried out protests demanding accountability for BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath’s conduct. As far as reports are concerned, Nath had previously faced criticism for watching an obscene video during a previous assembly session, and the opposition leaders demanded swift action in response.

When the speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Biswabandhu Sen commenced the budget session, opposition leader Animesh Debbarma highlighted the issue of BJP MLA Jadav Lak Nath’s alleged misconduct. The opposition leader underlined the lack of actions against the accused MLA. Dissatisfied with the response, opposition leaders expressed their discontent and urged for immediate action.

Amid the commotion, Chief Minister Dr. Mainak Saha asked the speaker to suspend 5 opposition MLAs on the grounds of disturbing the house during the budget speech. After the Chief Minister’s request, Speaker Biswabandhu Sen suspended 5 MLAs from the session. These MLAs include Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Tipra Motha MLA Birshaketu Debbarma, Ranjit Debbarma, Nandita Reang, and CPIM MLA Nayan Sarkar.
