A recent incident at Film City in Mumbai has caused panic among workers and staff after a leopard was spotted roaming on the studio sets. Additionally, a partially eaten carcass of a dog was found, further adding to the alarm. Maharashtra Forest department officials have assessed the situation and taken necessary measures to address the issue.

Pawan Sharma, founder and president of Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) and an honorary wildlife warden with the state forest department, confirmed the incident. Following the discovery on Sunday night, multiple teams of officials visited the site to evaluate the situation. A video capturing the leopard’s presence on the sets of Film City in suburban Goregaon has circulated on social media. Sharma explained that the workers and staff were frightened due to the dog attack.

Film City, located on the boundary of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, is a popular tourist attraction and is known to be home to leopards. It also abuts the Aarey Milk Colony, which is a forest area within Mumbai. In response to the incident, Sharma mentioned that regular patrols will be conducted on the premises and that the situation is currently under control. He emphasized the importance of being alert, aware, and following necessary guidelines and instructions from the forest department, as leopards often share common spaces with humans and may seek easy prey.

Sharma explained that leopards find dogs easier to hunt compared to wild prey, particularly due to increased vegetation cover. He stated that the forest department, in collaboration with wildlife volunteers, will install camera traps to monitor the movement of big cats. Furthermore, he advised people to walk in groups, avoid venturing alone near forested areas at night, and use a torch while carrying a mobile radio. This precautionary measure is intended to signal the presence of humans to wild animals, allowing them to avoid potential conflicts naturally.
